Oops! I haven't updated in a, well, long while! Quick update: "Legends and Destiny:In the Beginning" is finished 100% and has been submitted to Whiskey Creek Press. I'll find out in about 2-3 months what they think of it and whether it is printing-worthy. I am now editing "Orphans of War". Been stuck on it since I am not happy at all with the beginning. I think I am going to scrap the whole first chapter and just start from the second chapter.

...Well, 98% so.
I finished all the final, hard edits yesterday morning as planned. It was a rush to the finish line before work, but I managed to do it! Now all I want to do is one final read-through to make sure everything is as it should be, "I"'s dotted and "T"'s crossed, all that kind of stuff. I am planning on having that done by Wednesday, but not 100% sure if that will be the case. This week is going to be rather busy with almost 70 hours of work clocked in between today and next Saturday. Time to take care of puppies and then off to work! ~Shanny Ever have one of those day's you wake up and just EVERYTHING is perfect no matter WHAT happens? Yeah, I'm having one of them today. **grins**
Editing update: I'm through 123 pages out of 151 for "Legends and Destiny:In the Beginning". I am planning on finishing the final edits tomorrow morning, and then doing a final read-through and check this weekend, if time allows. So the plan is sometime next week, submitting it to Whiskey Creek Press and then see what happens! I was then going to edit some more "LandD" novels to also send to WCP, but I think I am going to switch tunes for a bit and finish working on and editing "Orphans of War". I have March 2nd through the 17th off, so the plan there is to finish "OoW" and get that sent in. My goal this year is to have 4 to 5 titles sent in for consideration. Once all those old projects are sent in, then I can focus on new stuff. Non-writing update: puppies have begun opening their eyes! I really need to take some time to get new pictures, since they will be two weeks old tomorrow, and get my picture's link updated. Another weekend project! Anyway, I am off to for work. This concludes your friendly author update. Now go back to your business! ~Shanny The new job has been going great! This will be the first, full week. Should go by fairly fast; I know last week did.
Puppy update! Though no eyes or ears are open yet, a couple of the fat, fur-balls have tried walking on their own. I need to get something up to keep them from crawling out of the crate. AND NOW, for a writing/editing update! Still plugging away at "Legends and Destiny:In the Beginning". Currently on page 88 of 150. As soon as I am finished, I'll be doing one, last, quick read through and then submitting it to Whiskey Creek Press for **cross fingers** publication. BACK TO WORK! ~Shanny Everything has been so far so good this week. I started my new job yesterday afternoon - LOVE IT! Storm's puppies will be 5 days old today and are doing great. I know I know, I still need to add the pictures! She's even letting the daddy, Khaos, step into the crate part of the way with her so he can help take care of the babies. I need to remember to keep my camera on hand so I can snap a pic of the adorable couple!
An update on EDITING! I'm currently on page 73 of 150 in "Legends and Destiny: In the Beginning". I've made it through what I consider the stickiest part of the novel so I am able to chew up more pages a day now. I want to say I will be finished by this weekend for the final read-through, but with everything going on, I am not making any promises, even to myself. Off to edit! ~Shanny Unfortunately, I didn't get anywhere near to my goal of finishing the final edit of "Legends and Destiny:In the Beginning". I ended up adding several thousand words/few pages worth of information that was necessary to plug plot holes and to connect scenes better. So far, have finished editing 47 pages out of the now existing 147. On that note, I've finished with what I find to be the most "weak" part of the story, so I'm expecting the rest will go by a lot faster. After I'm done with "LandD:ITB" I'll be working on the final edits for "LandD:Shonga" and finishing the last couple chapters of "Orphans of War".
On a non-writing note, my dog, Storm, had her puppies last night! Six in all; I'll be putting up their pictures sometime today. I also have been in contact with the team at one of the audio dramas I listen to (and is posted on (Audio Drama Links), "Startship: Excelsior", and I'm going to be helping them edit their audio lines/scripts! I've also submitted a voice clip to audition for parts in "Star Trek: Outpost" and "Children of the Gods". I'll let you know if either (or both!) of those pan out! Signing off for now to work on some more editing! ~Shanny A little update on what I've been doing. I spent most of yesterday (while I wasn't procrastinating!) on editing "Legends and Destiny: In the Beginning". So far, have gone from 143 pages and 93,749 words to 145 pages and 95,847 words. I have so far edited up to page 30, and am hoping to get up to at least page 70 today (yes, I can be ambitious at times!). It's a bit slow going since it was originally started almost ten years ago, so the tone and plot in various places just didn't connect with what I want it to sound and feel like. Hopefully, by Monday night, the final round of edits will be finished, and I can do a final read through before handing it to some publishers.
And hopefully, these edits will be done by the beginning of next week since it's going to be a chaotic one (and I don't mean because of the Super Bowl!). Tuesday we are taking in another dog, a half chow/half black lab female named Mia. Her owners, good friends of the family, have to move because they can't afford where they live anymore, and consequently, the dog either. We'll be taking Mia in until we can find her a new home. On top of that, starting tomorrow, my Siberian Husky, Storm, can pop. I love having new puppies but to be honest, they are a lot of work, and it makes it hard to go anywhere for more than a few hours. And it also makes it hard to DO anything, like editing, because all you want to do is play with and watch them grow; every day is a new, exciting learning process, and this will be my third time! So here's hoping the Muse lays off the sauce and puts his little, whiskered nose to the screen and helps me get this thing edited for good! So I haven't written here for a while. My bad! I did manage to do some editing on "Legends and Destiny: In the Beginning" recently, but I'm not where I would ideally like to be. The job search still goes on, though I may be working for a disabled, younger cousin of mine which will be so cool since he's family and we get along great. It will almost be like not working at all! That will give me plenty of time in the mornings and early afternoons to work on writing! I'll also have a load of time this weekend to work on editing, so hopefully, I'm planning on submitting at least "LandD:ITB" to Whiskey Creek Press. A friend of mine from a writing website has written a very interesting fantasy series and is published through that company. Here is a link so you can check him out: http://whiskeycreekpress.com/authors/Alastair_Archibald.shtml Well, enough slacking! Need to get as much done as I can while I have time. My Siberian Husky, Storm, is hopefully having her third and last litter of pups the first weekend of February, and I'll be busy at that time. Still creeps me out, watching them poke their noses and kick their feet at her stomach. Looks like something from that movie, "Aliens".
So I've recently quit my job as an insurance agent, and I've been thinking, "What am I doing?" I have been talking a lot to the people close to me about my life recently and the biggest thing I have figured out for myself is, "Keep it simple". Same thing, I suppose, could be said about my writing. Trying to do this and that to make it more complex doesn't mean I am making it more interesting. In fact, I may be muddling it up enough to make it unappealing for anyone to read. So as I'm going through life, trying to uncomplicated it, I am going to start going through my writing doing the same thing. Is that extra character or plot line really going to add more flavor or life to my piece? Is that second job, driving around all the time on my own money going to make me better off, or really make my life any better in the long run? If I can approach my life in this new year the same way I approach my writing, and visa-verse, then things should turn out for the better. In my own opinion. Okay, hopping off the soapbox now since I have four Siberian Huskies wrestling on the bed demanding my alpha attention!
~Shanny SO! This is the First Post. To be honest, not quite sure what to write here, so let's see how this goes. . .
Currently, when I am not at work or busy on the family farm, I am working on several fantasy and sci-fi pieces. They are in various stages from last edits, 1st edits, 1st drafts to just a few paragraphs of character and plot outlines. Most everything includes dragons, magic, or interesting aliens of some sort. I guess I would describe most of my writing as mature YA to light adult at this stage. I am currently looking for a publisher and/or agent to take me on, a search that has been going on for almost a good 10 years. I have had some parties interested in my writing; however, because of the market trends, they want me to write something in contemporary fantasy. Sorry, I don't sell myself out like that. I will watch the occasional movie with were-beings and vampires, but I'm not a big fan of all this dark, teenage drama-angst. Anyway, I am going to wrap up this lame, first post here so I can finish working on building SOMETHING on this site, and get some writing/editing done! ~Shanny |
